The re-location programme which was started in 1996 at Bata-Atha by the GOSL at a cost of US$ 4.5 Mn is now abandoned. The Project is now being shifted to the Puttalam District in the Western Province and this would take another 2 to 3 years for operations.
The Company envisages to invest US$ 1.25 Mn at this new site with precision machinery and modern technology. Production will commence in the first year with 250,000 sq/ft high quality leather; and by the end of the second year, it is expected to complete a production of half a million sq/ft.
The Company is proud of its achievements of having to compete with our neighbouring giants in this field like India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Taiwan and mostly China. We compete with confidence with all these countries including China and Taiwan.
As at present, we have orders lined up right through out the year, and our valued customers are from the UK the EU, Canada, Malaysia, Indonesia, Bangladesh, Taiwan and Thailand and India.
Our leather products are sold internationally at departmental stores while our upholstery leather is in demand by automobile industries of high repute. We are proud of our accolades because they indicate we’re doing many things right. However, keeping a great corporate reputation is an ongoing process.
